A car and a bike with the same kinetic energy are brought . . .

Question : A car and a bike with the same kinetic energy are brought to rest by the application of brakes which provide equal retarding forces. Which of them will come to rest in a shorter distance and why?

Solution :

According To Question
Both Car and Bike have same kinetic energy (K) and when brakes are applied they apply equal retarding forces (F).

As per the work energy theorem

Work Done = Kinetic Energy
Force . Displacement = Kinetic Energy
F.d=K
d=K/F

Since both K and F are same so d must be same. So both of them will come to rest after travelling equal distance.
